Welcomes New Duo
Cookeville, Tenn. – The Pet Therapy Program at Cookeville Regional Medical Center proudly announces the addition of a fifth trained therapy dog-handler team. Sadie, a Heinz 57 breed, and her handler/owner Nikki Panter will visit with patients at the Cancer Center on Monday mornings.
“Sadie charms and warms the heart with her lady-like demeanor. We are happy to welcome both Sadie and Nikki to the Pet Therapy team,” said MaryDell Sommers, volunteer chairwoman of the Pet Therapy Program.
All dogs actively visiting the Cancer Center are certified through Therapy Dogs International. In addition to hospital visits, the duo will aid in Pet Therapy community outreach projects, including visiting area schools and “Read with a Pet Therapy Dog” events at the Putnam County Library.
Nikki Panter is a professor of Environmental Sciences at Tennessee Technological University.
